2018 Economic Impact Study

  • The 31st annual Dublin Irish Festival generated $8.5 million to bolster the Central Ohio region this year, up 2.4 percent from 2013. In addition, more than $2 million was spent by local visitors in 2018.
  • The $8.5 million impact was derived primarily from spending by visitors who traveled to Dublin for the Festival. Taxes generated by new spending totaled $1.5 million, up 15.3 percent from 2013.
  • An economic impact study conducted every five years offers insight into who attends the Festival. Nineteen percent were first-time guests and 50 percent of all guests visited from outside the Greater Columbus Metro Area.
  • The Festival continues to consistently support the equivalent of 102 full-year jobs.
  • Survey results show that non-locals spent $1.3 million in accommodations. This is noteworthy because the Festival is funded through local hotel/motel taxes.  In addition, this is a 25 percent increase from five years ago.
  • Researchers also confirmed that 91 percent of guests surveyed agreed that the Dublin Irish Festival enhances the quality of life for people living in the region. Nearly two-thirds of survey respondents cited music/entertainment as the main reason for attending.
  • For purposes of this study, non-locals are defined as Festival guests who live outside the Greater Columbus Metropolitan Area (GCMA). Locals are defined as Festival guests who reside within the GCMA, which includes Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Licking, Madison, Morrow, Pickaway and Union Counties.  The study was conducted by Enigma Research Corporation, an international consulting firm that specializes in measuring the economic impact of special events.  For more information and to access the 2018 annual report, please visit org.

  • “Economic impact is significant because it measures the success of the Festival in relation to business vitality within the region. The 2018 economic impact study reveals an increase of 2.4 percent into the Central Ohio Region when compared to 2013 when the last survey of this type was conducted. This solidifies the Festival as a consistent driver to the economy.”
