Celtic Canines

Celtic Canines

Who let the Celtic Canines out?

Our Celtic Canine area is home to a virtual family reunion of several dog breeds native to Ireland. Throughout the weekend some of the Midwest’s top breeders will conduct grooming and training demonstrations and share the history of various Irish dogs. Festival guests will also be able to see and pet Irish breeds, including the  Irish wolfhound, Irish setter, soft-coated wheaten terrier, Irish terrier, Glen of Imaal Terrier and the Kerry blue terrier.

*Only working animals are permitted on Festival grounds

Bog Ponies

Bog PoniesGallop over to the Kerry Bog Pony exhibit where you can see, pet and learn about these gentle and wise creatures.

Bog Ponies were originally used to carry peat or turf from bogs to be used as fuel in homes.  These ponies are strong, athletic and full of life.

The 2010 Festival proudly features this rare breed of pony, of which there are only 200 in the world, placing the Kerry Bog Pony on the critically endangered list. On Saturday, a Foundation stallion imported from Ireland known as “The Spotted Badger,” will be featured. On Sunday, “TAF Hobby’s Bog Faerie,” who was born in the U.S.A., will be our shining star.

Visit these unique animals at the Festival on Saturday, August 7 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, August 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mike and Linda Asher of Thornapple Farms in Vermilion, Ohio, will be present to answer any questions.
