2012 Best of Fest Award Winners

The Dublin Irish Festival announced the winners of the 2012 Best of Fest Awards given to those volunteers who distinguish themselves by their dedication to the Festival. This group of volunteers was nominated by their peers, City of Dublin staff and Festival guests.
Leadership Award: Linda Dreier
Linda Dreier was chosen because as one nominee said, “Linda has true service in her heart and a genuine respect for others.” She, along with a community of leaders, oversees the Festival Admission gates. Linda is well organized and always available to help.
Adult Event Award: Bruce Goll
“Bruce’s positive attitude is infectious, and couldn’t be more welcomed during the grueling hours of the Festival,” one nominee wrote. Bruce distributes pop, water and ice to more than 30 beverage locations throughout Festival weekend. From Thursday morning set-up until the last case of pop and water is delivered, he makes sure the job is done, and done right.
Youth Event Award: Joseph Myers and Elizabeth Zimmerman
Not many 15-year-olds can say they have seven years of volunteer experience. Joe Myers can. He is at the Festival at 7:30 a.m. and is counted on to be there until after midnight every day. A nominee said, “Joe lives for the Festival and makes sure there is always a golf cart available to transport beverages wherever they are needed.”
For eight years, 17-year-old Elizabeth has shown that she is a leader, organizer and a good manager of volunteers. For the past five years, her work with the Sharin’ O the Green program has demonstrated her passion for the Festival. She developed a schedule for the student volunteers and she worked an impressive 41.5 hours during the Festival.
Family Award: Neil and Jamie Greenfield
Always smiling, happy and accommodating is how one nominee describes the small, but mighty Greenfield family. Whether it be information tents, golf carts, merchandise, admission gates, token sales, or beverages the Greenfield family has done it all. A nominee wrote, “Neil and Jamie have remarkable spirit and love for the Festival and the Dublin community.”
Group Award: The Hospitality Committee
From the first airport arrival on Thursday to the last departure on Monday, the Hospitality committee rolls out the green carpet for our entertainers and exhibitors. This dedicated committee cooks and serves meals, does laundry, and checks instruments. One entertainer wrote, “I’m treated better in Dublin than any other festival I’ve played at…thank you!”
